Oil Fat Cats vs. Hugo Chavez

Chavez, a radical populist who has been voted into office repeatedly by huge majorities in his own country, controls the largest reserve of petroleum outside the Middle East.

Neither Robertson, nor former oil executives George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Condoleezza Rice, nor their buddies at Exxon/Mobil, Chevron, etc., are happy about all this.

...Unlike Exxon/Mobil and the Big Oil fat cats, who wallow in their record profits while the rest of us pay, Chavez is spreading the wealth around.

A dangerous man, indeed.

Chavez has instituted a massive series of programs in Venezuela to benefit the poor majority in health care, nutrition, housing, education, and the like. Chavez is doing just what the right-wingers would like us to forget that Jesus in Matthew commanded us to do: feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give drink to the thirsty, etc. The example of using a country's resources to help the people of that country -- as opposed to swelling the already-obscene profits of US and other multinationals -- is why the Bushians must take action against Chavez.

PS: I just love Chavez's recent offer:

Chavez Offers Cheap Gas to Poor in U.S.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, popular with the poor at home, offered on Tuesday to help needy Americans with cheap supplies of gasoline.

"We want to sell gasoline and heating fuel directly to poor communities in the United States," the populist leader told reporters...

Chavez said Venezuela could supply gasoline to Americans at half the price they now pay if intermediaries who "speculated ... and exploited consumers" were cut out.
I can see the steam rising from Dick Cheney's collar.

You are pretty much a nit-wit, to put it in the simplest of terms for you. If you have never been there and do not know the oppressions that the Venezulian people are going through, please shut-up. You are in no way helping their plight.

Some facts:

Oil Production is falling rapidly In venezuela since Chavez fired 18,000 oil workers and nationalized the Orinoco basin ,causing foreign oil companies to leave. Venezuela isn't even CLOSE to production targets set for them from OPEC.

True, Chavez is spending money on poor and infrastructure, but he's killing the oil industry buy taking all net profits out and not re-investing. So, to dumb it down for you left wingers, oil production will continue to decline unabated.

Venezuela also has 20% inflation which is choking the very supporters who voted Chavez in in the first place. Its widely believed inflation and food shortages are what caused Mr Chavez' self serving referendum loss.

All of Chazez policies sound good to the solialistas and poor masses, but they won't work long term, Venezuela will simply have to change back to a more business friendly environment (ie Chavez resign) or face ecomomic hardship and disintigration. Its ironic Mr chavez' mentor and hero is Castro, becuase Economic maliase is exactly what will occur in Venezuela in the future, just like Cuba (but probably not near as bad, cuba is a lost cause until regime change)

Anonymous and Truth to Dare. The Rafael Caldera and Andres Jimenez administrations in the 90's left Venezuela with a 60% inflation rate, hunger plaque Venezuela. Without proper health care or adecuate housing these poor people had no hope because of past presidents. In the past 2 years 17,000 new medical Venezuelan doctors have graduated and more than 14,000 supermarkets EL MERCAL have been develope. The unemployment rate is at 5.3% history in the making. You the oposition should be ashame of yourself you had so many decades to transform your country and nothing was done, only to please the elite. So don't cry over spill milk. Latinamerica's economy is growing at a rate of 9% and Venezuela too. For the past 5 years this is a reality for Venezuela. You the oposition are the ones that are creating these shortages on dairy products by means of transporting liquid milk and meats to Colombia instead of Venezuela were these products are suppose to go. There is so much evidence of this that President Chavez is arresting violators of the agreements and law The national guard and army will see to this so it will stop. You are evil people with very low human value. Nobody will stop the progress of Latinamerica.
