Think about the difference between the proper intolerance we have for
slurs against Blacks and Jews, vs. our improper tolerance for slurs -- like
Eminem's -- against women and homosexuals.
If Eminem's lyrics attacked Blacks and Jews the same way he attacks gays
and women, would he ever even have gotten a recording contract, let alone
been nominated for a Grammy?
And regarding his homophobia, an elementary principle of psychology is
that we attack in others that which we most don't want to recognize in
ourselves. From the ugliness and ferocity of his lyrics, Eminem must be
scared to death of his own so-far-suppressed gay inclinations.
