87 - Bush's Budget Paints A Picture Of Right-Wing Greed & Cruelty / A Listener Weighs In On The Human Dimension Of The Gay Marriage Debate

George Bush ran for President as a "compassionate conservative." Yet his proposed federal budget belies that claim. Bush would slash programs that provide critical assistance to our most vulnerable citizens, including children and the elderly. At the same time, Bush proposes tax breaks for the richest 1% among us. And Bush's bloated Pentagon budget seems to serve no purpose but to enrich his defense industry-associated supporters.

In our second segment, we'll read and discuss a message from a gay listener who expresses his fears about the present-day climate in America. Here's a sample:

As a gay man living in a relationship for 17 years, I just don't understand why my family can't get the tax, legal and health benefits of other families. I don't care if my relationship is recognized by a church. However, I do want legal protections.

Why are right wingers so opposed to my rights? How would they be hurt by my loving relationship?
In my closing remarks, you can find out about the next Blast The Right Live Call-In Show.

(PS: Right-wingers, if you want to write in to me, fine, but at least do me the courtesy of listening to the podcast first. Please don't respond just on the basis of the brief preview above. Thanks!)

You left wing whack jobs are all sexually immoral, you don't respect our troops, you are always wanting to tax people but yet you complain because tax is so high then you whine because someone gets a tax break and you don't. That should show you right there that you idiots don't make any sense. All you do is pay lip service.

You JACKASSES (The symbol of the Democratic Party), all have Munchausen Syndrome. You always want to create a problem so that we will "Need" your Govt. services. Thusly, you tax us to keep them going. I don't have a problem with welfare. If you need it, use it as long as it's there. HOWEVER. I refuse to support welfare being paid out to ILLEGAL IMMAGRANTS and people who make welfare a career. Squirt out a kid, Collect a check.... Squirt out a kid, Collect a check....Squirt out a kid, Collect a check. When will your insanity stop?

You say you support our troops, but then you burn effigies of an American Soldier. You push for Gay rights....THEY ALREADY HAVE RIGHTS. If they weren't so perverse, then they might get along better in this world. Homosexuality is not a disease, not a RIGHT, it is a choice. A choice to be sexually deviant. What makes you think you will get special rights for sexual deviancy and immorality? Does this mean that a person who practices beastiality can marriy a pig and claim the tax deduction? No? Why not? Don’t take my side on that. I know you won’t because you put more stress on animal rights than human rights. Then you flip flop and change your mind. You bitch about Iraqi Prisoners, but you fail to remember what happened on 9/11. Then to further confuse the situation, you say 9/11 was an inside job. What a bunch of Baffoons! If 9/11 was an inside job, then why don't you prosecute the people responsible? Huh? You can't because speculation is not allowed in charging papers. It must be fact. If you feel THAT strongly about it, then do something about it. But you will loose because it's all a big fantasy world that you Libs live in.

You are fair weather politicians. You change policy only when it suits your purpose.

You people are all sick, misinformed whackos. Communists and Socialists is what you are. There may very well be a Civil War in this Country one day because of your tendencies to violence....Yes. I say violence because you spit at and beat and attack our returning troops and you support the terrorists. You embolden them. But if there IS a Civil War......You will loose because you all don't carry or own guns. ;)

Have a nice day.....NOT

P.S. If you are going to quote me, at least have the decency to post my WHOLE statement rather than just telling people what YOU want them to hear. (Which is typical with the Liberal Media). Besides. I know you won’t publish this anyway because you don’t want anyone to talk down to you or stand up to your domestic terrorism. It might hurt your feelings. WHAAAA!!!!

Re; Anonymous 7:44

First off, I’m a regular listener of Jack’s Podcast. I find in refreshingly informative and fact based. Politically, I’m more centrist and eclectic than Jack, but it’s enlightening to hear facts and viewpoints that are virtually non-existent in today’s corporate media, especially the pernicious wasteland of so-called TV news.

That said, I doubt if you will return to this site or revisit your comments given the tenor and incoherency of your comments which resemble a “drive-by” flaming. I wish you laid out more facts and less invective to respond to.

To just address a few of your points, what’s this obsession with “sexual immorality?” You keep your sex life to yourself; I’ll do the same with mine. Your rant about homosexuality being a choice flies in the face of logic (i.e. why would someone choose to join a hated, discriminated group that is vilified the world over?). And of course homosexuality is not a disease; in fact, it has been declassified as such by the DSM-V since 1974. The latest research strongly supports a strong genetic component combined with environmental factors as being predominiate in sexual preference ideation.

As for taxes, no one likes to pay them because people are selfish and oblivious by nature (i.e. “What’s in it for me?”) But when any politician speaks of cutting services, then the protests begin – however, living a low-tax, fast-growing state with a governor dedicated to “no tax increase” I find that conservatives seem to rail against tax increases more than liberals. So I really don’t understand your point there – please provide specifics.

I won’t deconstruct the rest of your rant because without more facts to go on, I’m just comparing my opinion to yours, and we are all entitled to our likes and dislikes. However, your co-mingling of the Iraqi prisoners and the 9/11 attacks have me very confused. Please elaborate in detail how they are related.

I was in the Pentagon on 11 Sep 01. To me the attacks are not an abstract event or TV news item – they are seared into my consciousness (I won’t bore you with the psychological reorientation that comes from starting one’s day on a beautiful, Indian summer morning with no thought of war and ending the day having escaped being killed, which makes one furious at those who tried to do it, and churning with more questions than answers.) Just a note, I have plenty of liberal friends and plenty of conservative buddies (after 23 years of military service, one makes many conservative friends) and I have never seen nor heard of GI’s being burned in effigy or any liberal condoning such activity.

As for Iraq, this debacle in the Middle East is draining precious resources we need to continue our fight against Al Queada and the Taliban – Sadly, that’s unfinished business because of the disaster we’ve created in Iraq. And yes, I’m disgusted by the fact that we have detained/imprisoned over 25,000 Iraqi rebels at this moment (the vast majority are NOT outside “terrorists”), and to make matters worse, mistreated many of them beyond the illegality of unilaterally invading their country and penalizing them for fighting back. Trust me, those 25,000 detainees will yield at least 100,000 or more insurgents. Honestly, ask yourself what would you do if a foreign power invaded the US?

As for the “communist and socialist” epithets, please update your vocabulary—we’re in the 21st century now. Those labels have no meaning in a modern context. Speaking of the 21st century, those of us who have advanced professional military education and studied how military force, which should always be the very last resort, works in concert with political processes, especially in occupier/counter-insurgency scenarios, are dumb founded at this unilateral notion of preemption and then underresourcing our men and women into a “lose-lose” predicament.

I have a lot of respect for General Petraeus whose work I read some years ago, but if you are that wound up to serve, then you should find your nearest Army recruiter and sign up. For a traditional counter insurgency strategy to work, in the per-capita force strengths required, we’ll need about 100,000 more boots on Iraqi ground than we have now. Don’t worry, the Army’s enlisting up to 42 years old, which is mind blowing considering the physical demands of being a soldier, especially in combat. Start working out.

Good luck

I'm glad I don't live in the USA. It seems to be a nation gone mad this last few years.

Here in Canada, the "gay marriage" debate is over and done with. Gays can now legally marry. Case closed. It's now a complete non-issue and civilization as we know it has not come to an end.

Perhaps some day the USA will join the 21st Century.

Great podcast - a must listen to
Jack Clark documents the right's wars on the poor, civil liberties, the right of workers to organize at work and obtain a decent working wage and work conditions, and against other countries who refuse to accept American domination. Jack provides all the sources so that you can see for yourself how the right is out to enrich itself at the expense of everyone else. Great job, Jack!

awesome show
Clark always backs up his statements against the right wing with fact and data, which gives him all the more credibility. As conglomerate media controlled by politics clouds the mainstream news media, Jack Clark, along with NPR and Democracy Now! have become my primary news source. Awesome podcast!

In-Depth, Meaty, Hardcore Knowledge
This podcast is not just entertainment, humor, chimp-bashing, or gee-whiz recap of the weeks events. Instead, it hits hard and in-depth on the world economic situation and how right-wing policies impact the poor and less advantaged all over the world. He examines Americas support of the World Bank, IMF,multinational corporations, etc., and connects the dots. This is a podcast for grown-ups. He gives good reasons why the right wing is NOT living up to its precious Bible, without putting down the Bible. As a Jesus-loving Christian and moderate Democrat, I respect this podcast for its subject matter. The grown-up manner of the speaker is just icing on the cake. He IS funny, but hes not trying to be, he just has a deadpan delivery but doesnt have to make jokes to make it interesting. The facts make it interesting and devastating.

A Breath of Fresh Air
Jack Clarks Blast the Right podcast is truly a breath of fresh air when it comes to political commentary. Jack is not like some commentators who simply climb on their soap box and state their own opinions as fact. Instead, Jack welcomes competent challenges to his way of thinking, and with logical analysis and sound research, debunks the lies, distortions, and self-deceptions of the right wing. I strongly recommend Blast the Right for people who seek the truth and care more about the long term health and well-being of the whole citizenry than the short term personal gain advocated by modern conservatives. Listen as Jack carefully shows how the high-sounding "God and country" rhetoric of the right wing is really just a smokescreen for policies that ultimately lead only to the increased misery, suffering, and death of the less fortunate for the particular benefit of the wealthy and the well-connected. And, if you find yourself in agreement, return to Podcast Alley to place your vote! Thanks!
