55 - WMD Found In Iraq! Anatomy Of A Fox News Propaganda Campaign

We didn't find any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, correct? Most of you out there consider this an old issue. Surely most Americans understand that Saddam had no WMD.

Think again.

The Harris Poll recently asked Americans if the following statement was true or false:

"Iraq had weapons of mass destruction when the U.S. invaded."

50% of Americans said the statement was true! 50% of Americans think Saddam had WMD.

This is, of course, despite the fact that no WMD were ever found, and the Bush administration's own inspectors concluded and publicly stated that Saddam had destroyed his WMD arsenal.

How could 50% of the American public think Saddam had WMD?

The culprit: Fox News and its fellow travelers.

I will link Fox directly to this shameful statistic of a 50% delusional nation.

We'll hear the whole gang of miscreants and liars: O'Reilly, Hannity, Brit Hume and John Gibson, with Newt Gingrich, Ann Coulter and Rush aiding and abetting, each with their own inimitable style.

No WMD's! What a surprise. Saddam was a tyrant who needed to be deposed. Why involve much of the world in a war.Why not support disident Iraqis to fight their own war? Bush, Blair, Howard and co. completely screwed it up.

WMD=Weapons of Mass Destruction;or weapons that kill lots of people indiscriminately when used. Fair enough definition? Iraq had and used WMDs before we got there (even prior to 1991) and had more which we found in the latest conflict. Iraq has used sarin and VX nerve gas to kill untold thousands of Kurds (we found the mass graves). Do you redefine WMDs as only nuclear devices or what? How convenient for you peacenik liberals.
You've got the 50/50 right from your "poll" you're just confused about which side of the 50/50 happens to be correct. The last poster can't spell, guess you're not educated formally, either.

in response to the last comment,
1) is it ethical to invade a country and kill 30,000-100,000 people because the country once upon a time had weapons that kill lots of people? In that case every single country in the world should be under attack! Oh no, I have bleach in my home, better kill me!
2) personal attacks do not further your argument

Jack, this was one of your best podcasts. Keep up the good work.

I saw the poll on line this past week end and wondered how so many could choose to continue to believe a blatant lie. Thanks for connecting the dots.

I to the illusioned commentor; it is not about redifining WMD. Bush claimed Sadam had a viable weapons program which he didn't. In fact, the weapons that were found confirm the fact that he gave up the program in the ninties like he was supposed to. So if he was complying with the demands made after the 1991 conflict why are we back?

Many Americans believe Saddam had WMD because they hear it from Rush Limbaugh, O'Rilley, Sean Hennidy and other right wing talk show hosts. Four days ago I heard one of them (forget which one as they all sound and pounce the same way)state that several artillery shells where found. They contained Serin gas so the talk show host stated"As far as I am concerned there were WMD!" So there we have it, twist, spin, or contort right wing lies so now they are the truth. Not scared to show my identity. Joe Elizondo

I called Sean Hannity's show last week and told him that President Bush said that Iraq had no WMDs. Sean said that I was a liar and then he hung up on me.

Great podcast - a must listen to
Jack Clark documents the right's wars on the poor, civil liberties, the right of workers to organize at work and obtain a decent working wage and work conditions, and against other countries who refuse to accept American domination. Jack provides all the sources so that you can see for yourself how the right is out to enrich itself at the expense of everyone else. Great job, Jack!

awesome show
Clark always backs up his statements against the right wing with fact and data, which gives him all the more credibility. As conglomerate media controlled by politics clouds the mainstream news media, Jack Clark, along with NPR and Democracy Now! have become my primary news source. Awesome podcast!

In-Depth, Meaty, Hardcore Knowledge
This podcast is not just entertainment, humor, chimp-bashing, or gee-whiz recap of the weeks events. Instead, it hits hard and in-depth on the world economic situation and how right-wing policies impact the poor and less advantaged all over the world. He examines Americas support of the World Bank, IMF,multinational corporations, etc., and connects the dots. This is a podcast for grown-ups. He gives good reasons why the right wing is NOT living up to its precious Bible, without putting down the Bible. As a Jesus-loving Christian and moderate Democrat, I respect this podcast for its subject matter. The grown-up manner of the speaker is just icing on the cake. He IS funny, but hes not trying to be, he just has a deadpan delivery but doesnt have to make jokes to make it interesting. The facts make it interesting and devastating.

A Breath of Fresh Air
Jack Clarks Blast the Right podcast is truly a breath of fresh air when it comes to political commentary. Jack is not like some commentators who simply climb on their soap box and state their own opinions as fact. Instead, Jack welcomes competent challenges to his way of thinking, and with logical analysis and sound research, debunks the lies, distortions, and self-deceptions of the right wing. I strongly recommend Blast the Right for people who seek the truth and care more about the long term health and well-being of the whole citizenry than the short term personal gain advocated by modern conservatives. Listen as Jack carefully shows how the high-sounding "God and country" rhetoric of the right wing is really just a smokescreen for policies that ultimately lead only to the increased misery, suffering, and death of the less fortunate for the particular benefit of the wealthy and the well-connected. And, if you find yourself in agreement, return to Podcast Alley to place your vote! Thanks!
