32 - Listen to Martin Luther King, Jr. Speak To Us About the War on Terrorism

When Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "Beyond Vietnam" speech at the Riverside Church in New York City on April 4, 1967, he was not only laying out a case against the Vietnam War and the negative role the U.S. was playing in the world. No, Dr. King was speaking to us also, in words eerily prophetic about our present day crusade in Iraq and our efforts to thwart democracy in Haiti, Bolivia, Venezuela and a host of other nations.

You will hear Dr. King in his own words. Be prepared to be moved.

Hi Dear Friend,

I have discovered your podcast and listen to it every week. But I was never this much touched by a podcast till I managed to listen to your recent episode (32).
America needs men like you to be loved and not hated. I say this because I love America before, more than I loved my country, I spend 9 years of life in America, but now, I hate it more than anything else in the world. Don't misunderstand, I don't hate Americas, I hate as MLK Jr. said, the evil government, interest groups, companies of America that beat on war drums.

Soon our countries will end up face to face, aiming their guns at each other; Such a horrible thing that I need to defend my country against people whom I once called Family (Americans).

I love your podcasts, and was very moved by the character of the man (MLK Jr.) that I never paid so much attention to. These people are jewels of your society, people like prophets and messengers. They bring us message from God, listening to them and following them, is rather our choice to make or not.

Keep up the good work,
Your always friend: Amir

Oh if only peace was possible. But facists, religious facists, dictators, socialist and communist czars, keep trying to oppress people.
All of these types have one thing in common: a government - either by their laws or religious teachings - want to rule and control everything thru them.
Only the liberals, the left wing, the socialist - all who vote Democrat by the way - feel the same way about government.
Liberals think by not fighting or defending themselves - all will be well. History shows it never works, but that doesn't stop the liberal. It hasn't on any of their policies.
I see an Iranian, who's country is arming themselves with nuclear weapons in which they admit will be used to destroy and kill Israel - is a liberal's 'friend'.
How does a liberal handle this dilema? I thought hate and war was bad?

Yes, thank goodness for conservatives who have no desire to control people, yeah right... And fighting people who are not a threat does little good either. The reason we can't do anything about Iran is that our resources are being wasted against our non-enemy, Iraq.

I'm telling everyone I know about the rational radical. I have listened to the four most recent and Im trying to catch up on the older ones. Your podcasts are always informative and entertaining.

The MLK podcast however, moved me deeply. Why didn't I learn about this MLK speech in high school? It is so important! This man was simply telling the truth to a nation who was being fed 'lies and spin' by the mass media in the same way we are currently being duped by this administration about everything, not just our current war.

I am an Irish citizen, married to an american citizen and have lived in this country for 12 years. As a child I dreamed of being in america all the time. I want america to be better than it is right now, to be what it should be, not a war profiteering bully that it is now.

Great podcast - a must listen to
Jack Clark documents the right's wars on the poor, civil liberties, the right of workers to organize at work and obtain a decent working wage and work conditions, and against other countries who refuse to accept American domination. Jack provides all the sources so that you can see for yourself how the right is out to enrich itself at the expense of everyone else. Great job, Jack!

awesome show
Clark always backs up his statements against the right wing with fact and data, which gives him all the more credibility. As conglomerate media controlled by politics clouds the mainstream news media, Jack Clark, along with NPR and Democracy Now! have become my primary news source. Awesome podcast!

In-Depth, Meaty, Hardcore Knowledge
This podcast is not just entertainment, humor, chimp-bashing, or gee-whiz recap of the weeks events. Instead, it hits hard and in-depth on the world economic situation and how right-wing policies impact the poor and less advantaged all over the world. He examines Americas support of the World Bank, IMF,multinational corporations, etc., and connects the dots. This is a podcast for grown-ups. He gives good reasons why the right wing is NOT living up to its precious Bible, without putting down the Bible. As a Jesus-loving Christian and moderate Democrat, I respect this podcast for its subject matter. The grown-up manner of the speaker is just icing on the cake. He IS funny, but hes not trying to be, he just has a deadpan delivery but doesnt have to make jokes to make it interesting. The facts make it interesting and devastating.

A Breath of Fresh Air
Jack Clarks Blast the Right podcast is truly a breath of fresh air when it comes to political commentary. Jack is not like some commentators who simply climb on their soap box and state their own opinions as fact. Instead, Jack welcomes competent challenges to his way of thinking, and with logical analysis and sound research, debunks the lies, distortions, and self-deceptions of the right wing. I strongly recommend Blast the Right for people who seek the truth and care more about the long term health and well-being of the whole citizenry than the short term personal gain advocated by modern conservatives. Listen as Jack carefully shows how the high-sounding "God and country" rhetoric of the right wing is really just a smokescreen for policies that ultimately lead only to the increased misery, suffering, and death of the less fortunate for the particular benefit of the wealthy and the well-connected. And, if you find yourself in agreement, return to Podcast Alley to place your vote! Thanks!
